A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a severely injured dog in a waste bin in Pegeia.
The Paphos District Court issued a one-day detention order against the suspect, who was arrested Friday night by the Animal Police following the discovery of his dog in a rubbish bin.
The suspect faces charges of animal abuse and mistreatment under the Dogs Law, according to Police Headquarters’ Communications Branch.
Police spokesperson Nicoletta Tyrimou told CNA that a woman accidentally discovered the dog in a waste bin in Pegeia and reported the incident.
The animal is currently receiving treatment at a veterinary clinic and is in poor condition.
Further investigation led to reasonable suspicion against the dog’s owner, resulting in an arrest warrant being issued, Tyrimou added.
