Paphos aims to make city more bicycle-friendly

Relevant News

The bodies of Paphos are now actively promoting its transformation into a bicycle-friendly city.

This goal is deemed crucial, as the outdated road infrastructure currently does not favour cycling, resulting in frequent incidents of injuries and accidents involving cyclists, tarnishing the city’s reputation abroad.

Tourism bodies of Paphos, with the support of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, had initiated preliminary planning for the creation of cycling routes in the Paphos province from 2021, prior to the pandemic.

The pandemic that ensued in the meantime left this plan, among many others, incomplete. The responsible authorities are now resuming efforts to promote it in 2024.

The design for the new cycling routes aimed to showcase the countryside, the beautiful landscapes, and the unique morphology of the communities in Paphos.

Four new routes covering mainly northeastern Paphos have been planned. Concurrently, before the pandemic, the implementation of the second phase had begun, including five routes covering the areas of Peyia, the communities of Laona, Polis Chrysochous, and Akamas.

Visitors to the Paphos province will now be able to enjoy the exhilarating experience of cycling even more enhanced as part of their broader vacations in Paphos, as a captivating destination for activities, adventure, and professional training.

At the same time, the bodies of the province are in the process of securing the necessary funds for the implementation of the required projects.

A promotion and awareness plan for these new routes is already in full swing through specialised channels promoting cycling tourism.

The new cycling routes are considered essential for the city and province, given that most roads are outdated and therefore dangerous for cyclists.
