Giorgos Pamborides formally submitted his bid for the Democratic Rally’s (DISY) presidential nomination on Monday, endorsing remarks by his rival, Averof Neofytou, on the day after the vote.
“I expect the party machinery to ensure the integrity of the result,” Pamborides said after filing his candidacy at DISY’s offices on Pindarou Street.

Barring a major surprise, the two men are the only contenders, as DISY formally began the process of choosing its presidential candidate.
Pamborides said he looked forward to a quality election process and was certain DISY would emerge stronger from it.
He arrived at 12.20pm, accompanied by his wife, Galateia Pamboridi.

Neofytou had filed his candidacy earlier, arriving shortly after 11.30am with his wife, Maria Selipa, to applause from dozens of supporters.
He called on the party to stand united behind whoever members choose on November 29 as their candidate and next President of the Republic. He said he was sure his rival would do so, but that it also applied to the entire leadership, party officials and DISY’s tens of thousands of members.
