Paediatric oncology hospital underway in Cyprus

Relevant News

Cyprus is nearing an agreement to establish and operate a dedicated paediatric oncology hospital, according to sources close to the discussions.

The Ministry of Health has been engaged in advanced talks with a foundation offering to fund the construction of the specialised facility.

A meeting yesterday at the office of Health Minister Michael Damianos included representatives from the Ministry, the donor foundation, and the Cyprus State Health Services Organisation (SHSO).

Sources familiar with the discussions report that the meeting resulted in an agreement on the process for moving forward.

This development comes amidst ongoing protests by doctors and parents’ associations concerned about the impact of construction at Makareio Hospital, which will also affect the paediatric oncology clinic.

However, all parties involved have emphasised to Philenews that the discussions for the new hospital have been underway for some time and are separate from the planned Makareio renovations.
