The 17-year-old National Guardsman, who is in critical condition due to severe liver problems, is being transported by air ambulance to France this morning.

In recent hours, his condition has further deteriorated, with issues arising in other vital organs.

The teenager’s mother will accompany him on the flight, and a specialist team of doctors and scientists from the transplant centre are on standby, having been arranged in coordination with the Ministry of Health.

The procedures for transferring the young Guardsman abroad commenced around 11 am yesterday when a rapid deterioration in his health was observed.

The air ambulance arrived in Cyprus at approximately 10:20 pm last night, and the medical team proceeded to the Nicosia General Hospital to safely transfer the patient to Larnaca Airport for departure.

However, due to the aircraft having reached its maximum permitted flight hours for 24 hours, the departure was rescheduled for the morning.

It is noted that the 17-year-old had only recently enlisted in the National Guard as a commando. Following the morning exercise last Friday, he lost consciousness.

He was initially taken to Larnaca General Hospital and then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital, where he remained intubated until he departed from Cyprus.
