The Paphos CID is investigating a grenade explosion at an elderly couple’s home in the city, which caused damage and sparked concern in the residential area.
Police received reports of a powerful explosion at the house of a 74 and 75 year old couple at around ten thirty last night, rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area, conducting preliminary checks and gathering evidence, sent for forensic testing.
The explosion occurred in the yard, breaking four of the window’s homes. There were no injuries.
Following further examinations, it was established that the cause of the explosion was a defensive military grenade.
Following an eye witness account, police arrested a 59 year old from the Ayia Marinouda community, who was placed in custody in connection with the case.
He will appear before the district court tomorrow for a remand order.
There was a previous arson attempt on the house last Wednesday, April 29th, when fire was set to a gas cylinder outside the home’s fence.
