A 73-year-old man died after going swimming at a Limassol beach on Tuesday evening and failing to return, police said.
The man entered the sea for a swim at Thalassaki beach but never emerged from the water, according to police reports. Authorities received notification around 9pm and immediately mobilised bicycle patrol and marine police units.
Marine police located the man unconscious in the water and attempted to retrieve him from the sea. He was subsequently pronounced dead.
The victim was identified as a Greek Cypriot, and his family has been notified, police confirmed.
