Larnaca CID has begun taking statements as part of its investigation into plasmapheresis machines found at a medical centre in the district.
The investigation is in full swing following a letter from the Health Services Department, dated September 14, which referred to two medical centres, at one of which plasmapheresis machines appear to have been found. After receiving the letter, CID Larnaca was instructed to investigate, together with the Health Services Department, whether the machines’ operation breaches the law.
As Phileleftheros has reported, a meeting was held in the previous days and an investigative team was set up to look into the matters raised in the letter; CID Larnaca head Giorgos Charalambous confirmed receipt of the letter at the time.
The investigation is being carried out in cooperation with the Health Services Department, and takes into account the findings of an earlier investigation into the same medical centre, which followed a 2023 letter. As Phileleftheros has previously reported, that letter came from the Health Ministry, after a patient needed hospital treatment for serious complications reportedly linked to a procedure. Police investigated at the time and forwarded the file to the Law Office, though the inquiry did not produce sufficient evidence to establish a criminal offence.
The case comes amid heightened public attention to plasmapheresis procedures in Cyprus and Greece, following the death of Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis after a similar procedure in Athens.
