Fake miracle cure scam uses Kykkos Monastery name to sell herbal remedy

Relevant News

Kykkos Monastery has been thrown into turmoil following an apparently misleading report circulating online that claims its monks have discovered a cure for serious illnesses and are selling the “miracle” preparation for payment through an online platform.

The report purports to feature an interview with the monastery’s abbot announcing the discovery of the miraculous treatment and includes AI-generated photographs of him with doctors who, according to the site claiming to represent the monastery, are Cypriots who approached him after their patients from Larnaca were cured following use of the preparation.

The website describes the “recipe” for the medicine, which includes various herbs, as well as “testimonies” from people who claim to have taken the medicine and been cured.

Church of Cyprus spokesman Christakis Efstathiou told philenews that no such thing is happening, called on the public to be extremely careful and not be misled, and referred the matter to Kykkos Monastery, which will issue a statement during the day to restore the truth.
