Overall, 371 medications, which beneficiaries of the General Healthcare System (GHS) obtain from system pharmacies by paying “contribution II” (the amount paid when prescriptions are filled), are affected by the annual review of the drug price list circulating in Cyprus by the Ministry of Health.

According to the information received today from the Health Insurance Organization (HIO) by doctors and pharmacists of the GHS, the revised drug price list will be implemented by the Ministry of Health on February 1st, the date on which contributions for medications affected and dispensed to patients through the GHS will also change.

Specifically, the “contribution II” will be differentiated for 371 out of the 2,160 products available through the GHS, as follows:

  1. For 122 formulations, the “contribution II” will decrease (beneficiaries will pay less for these medications).
  2. For 249 formulations, the contribution will increase (beneficiaries will pay more when filling their prescriptions at GHS pharmacies).

The revised list, including the revised contributions and changes in “contribution II” for products whose prices are affected, has already been posted on the HIO website.

It is reminded that the drug price list circulating in Cyprus is revised annually by the Ministry of Health according to relevant legislation, and the Health Insurance Organization does not participate in the price adjustment process.

The review of drug prices is based on a specific system, which is followed at the European level.
