Former Auditor General Odysseas Michaelides will announce the formation of his new political movement on Monday and has invited citizens to join him, according to a statement posted on his X account.
Michaelides said the announcement will take place at a press conference on Monday, 19 May 2025, at 12 noon at his headquarters located at 26 Prodromou and Kolokotroni Street.
“We will extend an invitation for cooperation to the citizens of Cyprus with the announcement of a new political movement,” Michaelides stated in his social media post.
Michaelides was dismissed from his post as Auditor General in September 2024 by the Supreme Court over inappropriate conduct. The Court cited overstepping of authority and undermining the rule of law. Michaelides criticised the ruling as a “dark day for Cyprus,” alleging political motives behind his dismissal.
Following his dismissal, Michaelides joined the European University of Cyprus as an adjunct professor.
An October 2024 opinion poll indicated that a hypothetical new party led by Michaelides would secure second place in the next legislative election, receiving 21% of the vote.
