The Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth is investigating the alleged beating of an 11-year-old girl by classmates during school hours, and has received an incident report from the school, a ministry source told Phileleftheros on Wednesday.

An educational psychologist is supporting the girl and her family, as well as the school and the children who, according to the complaint, attacked her. Measures are also being taken at the school, the source said.

The case has been under investigation from the outset, according to the source. Once the school’s report has been studied, it will become clear what the findings are and how the process will proceed.

The girl’s parents told Phileleftheros on Tuesday that five classmates had beaten her at a primary school in Kaimakli, Nicosia, after she celebrated a goal, leaving her with concussion, bruising and blood in her urine. They said it was the third time she had been attacked since mid-October, despite warnings to the school and the ministry.
