Restoration efforts are intensifying on the electricity grid in the fire-affected areas of the Limassol district, Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) spokeswoman Christina Papadopoulou said.
Papadopoulou stated that 178 out of 400 burnt poles have been replaced so far, and new transformers have been installed at eight of the 50 damaged sites. Additionally, 3.5 kilometers of new overhead medium-voltage network have been constructed.

Papadopoulou noted that 100 burnt poles have already been removed from hazardous locations, and EAC crews continue working tirelessly in the field. “Everyone is there, working non-stop. The coordination by the team of directors who took charge from the beginning is tremendous. They are coordinating crews of over 150 people under very difficult and dangerous conditions. It’s a feat, but they will continue to work for many days,” she emphasized.
She reiterated that power has been restored to the centers of seven communities using mobile generators and to nine other communities. A significant effort is underway to rebuild the entire network. “Our priority is to establish the main backbone of the network, then the branches, and from the medium voltage, we will be able to set up the low-voltage network later. Afterwards, we will go house-to-house to inspect and ensure they are safe for connection,” she added.
When asked about the damage assessment conducted by drones in inaccessible areas over the past two days, Papadopoulou said the drones surveyed all necessary points within these areas and recorded the required information.

Regarding any difficulties in sourcing materials or equipment for replacements, the EAC spokeswoman confirmed that there were sufficient equipment reserves, and materials were sourced from all districts.
