State hospital doctors have rejected a proposed meeting from the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO) regarding their financial incentives, refusing to accept the findings of an independent report.
The doctors will not attend a meeting called by SHSO for Monday morning to discuss the distribution of 2.5 million euros among hospital departments, as recommended by the study for services rendered under the General Health System (GHS) in 2023.
This figure is significantly lower than the 4.1 million euros SHSO had initially proposed last month, an offer that doctors had rejected, threatening a 48-hour strike.
Sotiris Koumas, president of the PASYKI union (Cyprus Federation of Government Doctors), publicly contested the study’s results, citing procedural issues, and announced that the unions will not attend the meeting. “What was eventually sent to us, was not the complete study as it was agreed to be carried out,” Koumas said.
In response, SHSO spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou stated, “There is no other study except the one we sent to the unions on Friday. It is not half or a quarter of the study. The result was sent by us to the doctors. We care about the outcome.”
