Limassol police arrested 13 people following a violent confrontation involving approximately 200 youths outside a bakery in Ayia Fyla on Friday night.

The young people, most with their faces concealed by hoods, were armed with clubs and threw stones during the disturbance. They later set fire to the main road, disrupting traffic in the area.

Police initially responded to citizen reports at about 21:30 but delayed intervention due to the large number of individuals involved, calling for reinforcements instead.

Photos shared on social media showed the youths had started a fire on the main road of Ayia Fyla, preventing motorists from passing through. Fire services were promptly notified and extinguished the blaze.

Authorities returned to the scene at 23:00, where they found approximately 70 people still present. Officers arrested 13 individuals, nine of whom are minors aged 16-17.

The suspects face charges of illegal assembly, with additional arrest warrants being considered for rioting and malicious damage. Today, they will appear before the Limassol District Court, where police are requesting their detention.

The charges against them include conspiracy, rioting, malicious damage and possession of offensive weapons. One suspect faces an additional charge of motorcycle theft after being caught driving a stolen vehicle.
