Cyprus clinched its first medal at the 31st summer edition of the FISU World University Games held in Chengdu, China.
Elena Kulichenko, soared to victory in the Women’s High Jump, claiming a silver medal with an impressive leap of 1.91 meters.
Kulichenko secured Cyprus’ fifth medal in the FISU University Games, as the country has won two silver and two bronze medals in past tournaments.
Born in Russia, Kulichenko was granted a Cypriot passport in 2019 because her father works and owns property in the country.
She decided to switch allegiances after the Russian Athletic Federation (RusAF) was suspended from World Athletics over its alleged government-run doping programme.
