A low-pressure system centred over Egypt is moving north and will start affecting Cyprus from Friday, with dust set to remain in the air until Sunday, according to the forecast.
Dust concentrations are expected to be elevated at times as the system moves in.
On Friday, the weather will gradually turn partly cloudy, mainly because of high cloud. Winds will blow mainly from the north-east to south-east at 3 to 4 Beaufort, rising locally to 5 Beaufort on windward coasts. The sea will be slight to rough. Temperatures will rise to around 21C inland and on the coast, and 11C in the higher mountains.
Cloud will thicken overnight and isolated rain is expected later, mainly on the south and west coasts. Winds will remain mainly north-easterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, later increasing to 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will stay slight to rough. Temperatures will fall to around 11C inland and on the coast, and 4C in the higher mountains, where frost may form in places.
On Saturday, the weather will be mostly cloudy with localised rain and isolated thunderstorms. Hail may fall in thunderstorms, while sleet or snow may fall on the highest peaks of Troodos. A strong north-easterly air current will affect the island.
On Sunday, increased cloud is expected to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms in places, while on Monday, there will be intervals of increased cloud.
Temperatures are expected to drop noticeably on Saturday to below seasonal averages, then rise on Sunday and change little on Monday.
