The Department of Forests of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment has taken the Audit Office recommendations from Special Report TD/01/2025 on Akamas National Forest Park construction contracts seriously and has already taken action to improve procedures for new construction projects and contract monitoring.

The department has promoted further staff training on contract management, relevant legislation and regulations, and tender document preparation.

Improvements made by the Department of Forests following the Audit Office recommendations are recorded in the service’s related report, demonstrating the department’s commitment to continuous improvement.

The matter of guarantees for the Phase A construction contract for road network improvement is being handled by competent state authorities, and therefore no public comment can be made at present.

The department wishes to note that the projects under review in the Akamas National Forest Park area were designed after years of intensive efforts to reconcile all positions of various services, departments and ministries.

A series of actions are currently underway so Phase A can restart with a reduced environmental footprint, provided necessary approvals are obtained from environmental authorities and all established procedures are followed.

The Department of Forests concludes by emphasising that its fundamental principle is protecting Akamas and promoting it as an environmental treasure of the country.

Therefore, in cooperation with related departments, it is proceeding with revision of the original design to reduce the environmental footprint of the projects.
