The body found yesterday in a field in the eastern Paphos district, near Praitori, has been identified as Achilleas Michail, 78, who had been reported missing since May 8.
According to information gathered by Phileleftheros, Michail had travelled from Nicosia to Praitori to pick capers. When family members were unable to reach him by phone, they filed a missing person report with police.
Authorities located a vehicle belonging to an elderly person in the area, and an extensive search operation has been under way since Sunday, involving foot patrols and drones equipped with thermal cameras.
The body was found in open ground during a subsequent search operation involving a helicopter and sniffer dogs.
A postmortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
