Convicted felon Doros Theofanous, who escaped custody last week, is set to return to the Central Prisons following his arrest yesterday in Limassol.
The 42-year-old, already serving a life sentence, will not appear before Paphos District Court for a detention order.
Instead, he will be transferred directly back to Central Prison, with a new judicial process expected to address offences committed during his escape.
Police spokesperson Christos Andreou told reporters that Theofanous was apprehended at approximately 17:25 on Monday in the coastal area of Amathousa, Limassol, following a coordinated police operation.
“The suspect was arrested on a court warrant. A search following his arrest revealed no illegal items in his possession,” Andreou said.
Crisis management centres were activated at Police Headquarters and in the Paphos and Limassol districts immediately after Theofanous’s escape last Thursday, under the coordination of the Chief of Police, Andreou said.
He stated, “From the moment of his escape until now, police have conducted various actions and investigations continuously. Dozens of leads were evaluated, resulting in operations and searches across open spaces and properties.”
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of Theofanous’s escape, his movements whilst at large, and potential accomplices.
The suspect is expected to appear before Paphos District Court this morning, where police will seek a detention order to continue their investigations. Another individual remains in custody in connection with the case.
