Nicosia’s old GSP stadium: Seven spots for food and leisure up for grabs this November

The tender for the commercial development of spaces at the old GSP stadium is expected to be announced in November, marking progress in the plan to begin commercial operations at the capital’s new gathering point within the next year.

Nicosia Municipality’s goal is to fully activate the area as a modern recreation and visitor hub.

Restaurants and cafés will operate in the redeveloped spaces, allowing visitors to combine their stroll with food or drinks. The area already remains open to the public throughout the day, either for walking or relaxation, with increased public attendance noted from the start.

According to information from Phileleftheros, the consultation process has been completed, and the Municipality, in cooperation with the Treasury, is proceeding with the preparation of the tender documents.

The aim is to have the terms approved in time so that the green light for the official announcement can be given in November.

In total, there are seven available spaces. Two for restaurants, two for cafés, while the remaining three have no specified use and can be utilised according to the proposals of interested parties.

At the same time, a Citizen Service Centre will operate behind the amphitheatre plaza, while a shop on Evagorou Street is intended for a mini market or a similar activity.

The premises will be delivered using the “cold shell” method, meaning the interior spaces will be in basic construction form, without full completion.

The final configuration will be done by the successful bidder, depending on the use and operational needs of their business.

The consultation process revealed interest in forming a consortium, indicating that serious consideration is being given to the possibility of the tender covering all spaces rather than individual units.

This, according to sources, could contribute to a more unified development, with common aesthetics and coordinated operation.

Interest is already considered strong, and those involved expect it to be expressed practically when submitting tenders.

Nicosia Municipality’s intention is to proceed without delays so that the project does not remain stagnant.

At the same time, the possibility of utilising the restaurant on the ground floor of the THOC (Cyprus Theatre Organisation) building, which is adjacent to the old GSP site and currently underused, remains open.

This possibility was foreseen in the original planning, and it is being examined whether it can be included in the same exploitation process.
