Averof Neofytou and Giorgos Pamborides are due to file their candidacies at the Democratic Rally’s (DISY) Pindarou Street offices on Monday, an hour apart, as the party formally opens the race to choose its 2028 presidential candidate.
Neofytou has told the media he will arrive at 11.30am, while Pamborides is reportedly expected an hour later, at 12.30pm. The nomination papers will be received by Andreas Stavrinides, head of the party’s organisation directorate.
DISY leader Annita Demetriou will not be present, because of prior commitments in the House of Representatives, party sources said.
Barring a major upset, no other candidates are expected. Each candidate needs 500 signatures, 100 of them from members of the party’s Supreme Council, so any attempt by someone else to collect them would already have become known.
