A camera has captured a particularly beautiful and relatively rare glimpse of Cyprus’s wildlife: seven mouflon gathering together at a watering hole to drink.
The footage was released by Nikos Kassinis, Senior Officer at the Game and Fauna Service, who pointed out a detail that makes the recording even more striking: the female mouflon at the centre of the group appears to be accompanied by twin young, one male and one female.
It is a notable case, Kassinis said, as the twin birth rate among Cyprus mouflon varies from year to year but remains below 10 per cent. The first year of a twin’s life is harder still, he added, with survival rates during that period also standing below 10 per cent.
