Extremist groups in Cyprus’s occupied territories have issued threats against the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation and Turkish Cypriot activist Oz Karahan following a press conference on Greek Cypriot property seizures, according to a party statement.

The party reports that the nationalist newspaper Volkan, organ of the extremist Grey Wolves organisation, ran a front-page headline on 12 June 2025 reading “Silence this traitor!” targeting Karahan, a member of the Political Committee.

Karahan participated in an 11 June press conference by the party and the Union of Cypriots, presenting documented evidence on property seizures in the occupied territories and calling for justice and human rights respect.

The activist faces prosecution by the Republic of Cyprus alongside Giorgos Tattis, with both due to appear in court on 20 June.

They are charged for attempting to display a banner against apartheid and supporting the Republic of Cyprus as the only solution during the 1 October parade.

Recent days have seen multiple newspaper articles in the occupied territories referencing statements by Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation President Papadouris and Tsimillis, coordinator of the Labour Group, following their recent meeting with President Christodoulides.

President Papadouris, currently in Brussels for the annual European Green Party leaders’ meeting, was informed of the publications. He will brief European Green Party leadership and Green MEPs on Greek Cypriot property seizures in occupied territories and threats against Cyprus Greens.
