Repeated health system software failure causes nationwide disruption

The General Health System (GHS) experienced significant software problems on Monday morning, disrupting healthcare services across the island and affecting both providers and patients.

The system malfunction began shortly after 8:00 a.m. without prior notification to healthcare professionals or beneficiaries, leaving many unable to perform medical procedures or record patient data.

The software either failed completely or experienced significant delays intermittently, making it impossible to conduct medical procedures and register data during the outage.

The technical issues lasted approximately two hours before the system returned to full operation.

This incident follows ongoing technical problems that started last October. In late March, it was reported to the parliamentary health committee that resolving these technical issues would require at least three months.
