A 22-year-old man died after being struck by a piece of wood while setting up an Easter bonfire (lampratzia) on Saturday in Nicosia.
According to information, the accident occurred around 5:30 pm in an open area near Constantinoupoleos Street, where a group of young people were transporting and arranging wood for the bonfire. Under circumstances being investigated by authorities, a large piece of wood reportedly fell on the 22-year-old, fatally injuring him.
The same information indicates that the young man was apparently struck by an electricity pole which he was attempting to move to the location.
An ambulance promptly arrived at the scene, whilst the area was cordoned off by police for investigation purposes. The family of the 22-year-old, who are currently abroad, have been informed, according to official police statements.
Police are investigating the case.
