Traffic cameras activated at Limassol junction more than a year after quadruple fatal crash

Two new traffic monitoring cameras were activated Tuesday morning in Limassol at a junction where a family of four died in a crash on New Year’s Day 2024.

George Milis, Head of Road Safety at the Police Traffic Department Headquarters said the cameras have been installed at the traffic light-controlled junction of Yiannos Kranidiotis Avenue and Agias Anastasias Street in Polemidia.

The newly deployed technology will document multiple traffic violations, including running red lights, crossing stop lines and speeding. Officials have emphasised that the cameras form part of a broader strategy to reduce dangerous driving and prevent serious accidents.

The quadruple fatal crash occurred at the traffic-light-controlled intersection of Yiannos Kranidiotis Avenue and Agias Anastasias Street in Limassol, half an hour into 2024. Two siblings and their grandparents died after colliding with an incoming pick-up truck while trying to turn right at the intersection.
