Police have arrested a 61-year-old man in Peyia in connection with a case of dog abuse that occurred on January 16, 2025.
According to police, the case was solved following coordinated investigations and evidence gathering by the Paphos District Animal Police Unit.
The 61-year-old Peyia resident reportedly admitted to the abuse during questioning. He has been formally notified in writing and is expected to face judicial proceedings as the investigation continues.
The incident came to light when the dog was discovered in a rubbish bin in Peyia, sealed in a bag and in deplorable condition, by a Canadian permanent resident of Cyprus.
The dog has since been living in a foster home.
