Healthcare system hit by second day of software disruption

Healthcare professionals and particularly pharmacists, are facing significant challenges as the General Health System (GHS) software continues to malfunction for a second consecutive day, hampering prescription services.

Ploutarchos Georgiades, president of the Pharmaceutical Association, told philenews that “patient service is severely affected as the IT system is either completely down or operating extremely slowly”.

Doctors are also experiencing difficulties, as they are unable to process prescriptions or referrals despite continuing to see patients.

Marios Tziakouris, the Director of Information Technology of the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO), confirmed to philenews that intensive efforts are underway to resolve the system failure.

“We are in constant communication with the company responsible for the system, and work is ongoing to resolve the issue”, he said.

“Currently, we have no means to communicate directly with our providers to share additional information.

Updates will be provided through the Organisation’s social media channels”, Tziakouris added.

He emphasised that the fault has been identified and stressed that “this is not a cyber-attack“.
