Nicosia Hospital staff strike after attempted murder against nurse

Relevant News

Nurses at the Nicosia General Hospital Emergency Department are holding a two-hour work stoppage today, Monday, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., to protest against recent incidents of aggressive behaviour towards medical staff.

The action, jointly organised by trade unions PASYKI, PASYNO, and the Nursing Branch of PASYDY, comes in the wake of an alleged assault involving a patient brandishing a knife and injuring staff.

The unions are demanding “immediate action” from authorities to address patient violence and ensure staff safety.

During the stoppage, only the most critical emergency cases will be treated. Meanwhile, President Nicos Christodoulides is scheduled to meet with representatives of the Cyprus Nurses Union (PASYNO) and the Health Minister to discuss the situation.

Police are searching for Christos Modestou, 29, in connection with an incident at the Emergency Department.

Modestou is accused of attempted murder, assault, and weapon possession for allegedly threatening and injuring medical staff with a knife.
