Convicted murderer Doros Theofanous, who escaped custody last week, has been returned to Cyprus’s Central Prisons, authorities confirmed.
The 42-year-old, already serving a life sentence, arrived at the facility shortly after 11:00 local time under heightened security measures. Officials stated there was no need for a court appearance due to his existing sentence.
Meanwhile, new CCTV footage broadcast by local television network ANT1 has emerged, showing Theofanous’s movements shortly before his recapture on Sunday.
The video depicts the fugitive entering a kiosk shirtless, with a towel draped over his shoulder. He appears visibly anxious as he quickly selects and purchases a black shirt before leaving.
Subsequent footage shows Theofanous visiting another kiosk to buy mobile phone cards, an action that reportedly alerted the shop employee, who then contacted authorities.
Sources close to the investigation suggest Theofanous was concerned about potential informants among those who had sheltered him during his three days on the run.
The same sources indicate he left personal belongings at a house where he had stayed for one to two days.
