Nicosia, Amyth Hotel, 7pm. Alpha Square stages Marguerite Yourcenar’s ‘Phaedo or Vertigo’, directed by Andreas Araouzos. The text comes from her collection ‘Fires’, in which Yourcenar lends her voice to historical and mythical figures, reimagining their thoughts and inner lives. Nicosia, Ktirion 53, 8pm. Ktirion 53 presents the Cyprus premiere of ‘All of It’ by British playwright Alistair McDowall, directed by Maria Ioli Karolidou. Limassol, Pattichion Municipal Theatre, 8.30pm. Eleni Rantou returns to Cyprus with ‘The Party of My Life’, now in its fifth year. Rantou looks back on fifty years of personal and collective trauma against the backdrop of modern Greece, searching for the reasons life is worth living. The show is inspired by ‘Every Brilliant Thing’ by Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe, but is not an adaptation of it. Further performances: October 6, 8.30pm, and October 7, 7pm. Nicosia, Dentro Theatre, 8.30pm. Florian Zeller’s award-winning ‘The Father’ returns to Dentro Theatre, directed by Giannis Leontaris with Stavros Louras in the lead role. Screening
Nicosia, Pantheon, 8.30pm. The Friends of Cinema Society screens Manuel Gómez Pereira’s comedy ‘Franco’s Dinner’. Two weeks after the end of the Spanish Civil War, Franco orders a lavish dinner for 60 people at the Palace Hotel within a few hours. But the hotel has been turned into a field hospital, the best cooks, all of them left-wingers, are in prison, and the market is short of even the most basic goods. In Spanish with Greek subtitles.
Lecture
University of Cyprus (Pedagogical Academy, Kallipoleos Avenue), 7.30pm. ‘Second time lucky: the new excavations at the Sanctuary of Apollo at Tamassos-Frangissa, results and prospects’. The university’s Archaeological Research Unit hosts a hybrid lecture, on Zoom and in person, on a major excavation. The speaker is Dr Matthias Recke of the University of Frankfurt. Protaras, Agia Triada beach, October 1 to 6. The Cyprus Rocks Festival returns to Protaras in the first week of October with tribute acts from the UK and Europe.
