French World Cup winner Lilian Thuram will hold a public discussion on racism in Limassol on Saturday, 21 November, as part of the 5th Limassol International Book Fair.
The discussion, entitled ‘White Thinking: Why did Europe invent racism?’, draws on his book ‘White Thinking’. Thuram, who is also an author and president of the ‘Lilian Thuram Foundation: Education against Racism, for Equality’, will talk with Vaggelis Gettos of the Center for Social Innovation about racism, colonialism, stereotypes and power, followed by a discussion with the audience.
The event runs from 10am to 11am on the Main Stage at Lanitis Carob Mills. Thuram will then sign copies of his book and meet the audience.
The Center for Social Innovation is taking part in the event, which is co-organised with the Alliance Française de Limassol.
Thuram, who was born in Guadeloupe, won 142 caps for France and was part of the sides that won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000, scoring both goals in the 1998 semi-final. He also played for Monaco, Parma, Juventus and Barcelona. He is considered one of the best defenders in football history.
He set up his foundation in 2008, and ‘White Thinking’ was first published in French in 2020.
