A sudden downpour flooded buildings and open spaces in Paphos on Thursday morning and cut visibility to zero for several minutes, as police warned drivers of slippery roads across the district.
The rain hit the wider Paphos area shortly after 10am and fell heavily for about half an hour. The damage was limited because the downpour eased relatively quickly, but rain continued for some time afterwards.
Police said heavy rain falling in Paphos district since 11.15am was disrupting traffic across the district’s road network. Visibility for drivers was reduced, and water running across some roads had made the surface slippery.
Police urged drivers and anyone else using the roads to take particular care.
Strong winds earlier blew a metal pergola off a block of flats on Grivas Digenis Avenue in central Paphos, crushing one parked car and damaging another. No one was injured.
