UN envoy Maria Angela Holguin said she was optimistic about next week’s trilateral meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman, after holding preparatory talks with Erhurman in the occupied north.
“I am optimistic, I hope I am not the only one on the island,” Holguin, the UN Secretary-General’s personal envoy for Cyprus, told reporters after the meeting. She said they had discussed many issues, that it had been a good meeting and that she was continuing to work.
The meeting lasted almost an hour and a half. Erhurman made no statement afterwards.
