Raffaele Fitto, the EU Special Representative for the Cyprus problem, arrives in Cyprus today. President Nikos Christodoulides said on Wednesday that he would meet Fitto on Friday, and that the EU Special Representative would also meet Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman.
Fitto, who is also Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, is visiting as part of his mandate to contribute to the process of settling the Cyprus problem under UN auspices, a European Commission spokesperson said. The spokesperson said Fitto is working in close cooperation and coordination with María Ángela Holguín, the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus.
Fitto’s visit comes a day after UN Secretary-General António Guterres concluded his own visit to Cyprus.
