A sense of cautious optimism, satisfaction, and anticipation prevails at political party headquarters across Cyprus following the publication of the legislative election exit polls. Leadership teams and party officials are waiting for the official results to confirm initial estimates and obtain a clear picture of the final outcome.
DISY and AKEL anticipate official figures
At the Democratic Rally (DISY) headquarters on Pindarou Street, officials expressed satisfaction but held back from celebrating, focusing entirely on the official results and the final distribution of parliamentary seats. Party sources said the exit poll figures matched their internal polling, adding that supporters and officials have begun gathering outside the party offices as they wait for the official vote count to establish a clearer picture.
The Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) reacted with optimism that the party will maintain or potentially increase its share of the vote. Party officials viewed it as a highly positive sign that no exit poll placed AKEL below 21 per cent. Sources within the party noted that maintaining their strength amid the emergence of new political formations was a key objective, though they emphasized that they will wait for the final tally as ballot box counts can deviate from initial projections.
ELAM smiles at projected growth while DIKO claims centrist stability
The National People’s Front (ELAM) welcomed the exit polls showing them between 10.5 per cent and 12.5 per cent with smiles and cautious optimism. If verified, these figures mark a substantial increase from their 2021 result of 6.78 per cent and four seats, achieving their pre-election goals of increasing their percentages, seats, and raw vote count. Party leadership remains guarded and will not make official statements until the final count is complete.
The Democratic Party (DIKO) expressed satisfaction with initial projections that appear to secure them fourth place. Party officials said the results send important messages to the political system, which they intend to evaluate carefully. DIKO officials highlighted that the exit polls disproved campaign-period predictions of a collapse in their numbers, ensuring they remain the largest centrist party with a stabilizing role in the new parliament.
Mixed reactions among smaller and newer factions
At the ALMA offices, party members erupted into applause following the projections. Party spokeswoman Katerina Paparadamanthous expressed certainty that ALMA will secure a place in the new parliament, emphasizing that the political movement is here to stay while adding they will wait for the final figures.
EDEK officials expressed cautious optimism regarding their prospects of entering parliament but stated they need to see a steady flow of official data before drawing safe conclusions.
The Democratic Alignment (DIPA) expressed quiet confidence that they will maintain parliamentary representation. Party sources recalled that the 2021 exit polls incorrectly predicted DIPA would miss out on parliamentary seats. Party President Marios Garoyian is currently reviewing incoming data alongside party leadership and advisers.
At Volt Cyprus, members and supporters gathered at their Nicosia electoral centre welcomed the exit polls with applause and cheers. Party officials expressed satisfaction with the projected percentages, which they estimate could translate into up to three parliamentary seats. Volt press representative Pieros Karoullas is expected to make official statements shortly.
