Christodoulides delays reshuffle announcement as key moves reportedly locked in

Relevant News

President Nikos Christodoulides has postponed his cabinet reshuffle announcement again to put some final touches on the new government line-up.

However, the main moves on the government’s chessboard appear to have largely locked in, according to philenews information, involving both changes of personnel and portfolios.

Tina Pavlou, who ran as a top-list DISY candidate for Nicosia, is strongly rumoured for the Health Ministry, according to philenews information. If confirmed, the move would mark a significant win for Christodoulides in his effort to maintain support among DISY voters. Her appointment would also reportedly move Neofytos Charalambides to the Transport Ministry, from which Alexis Vafeades appears to be departing.

Evi Tsolaki, a DIKO official who ran as a candidate in Limassol in the parliamentary election, also appears set for a government position, with scenarios pointing to the Deputy Ministry of Welfare. If confirmed, this would in turn move Klea Papaellina from the Deputy Ministry of Welfare to the Deputy Ministry of Culture, from which Vasiliki Kassianidou is departing.

Christos Senekis, a former DIKO MP for Famagusta, appears set to take over the Agriculture Ministry, from which Maria Panayiotou is departing.

Panayiotis Palates is reportedly moving to head the President’s Office, according to philenews information.

Despite some scenarios suggesting Christos Angelides was in contention for the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, this has not been confirmed. It remains unclear what will happen with Costas Koumis and who would replace him, should a reshuffle take place.

Finally, it also remains unclear who would take over as Ombudsman, should Palates move to head the President’s Office.
