The dramatic developments regarding the alleged involvement of a police officer and a lawyer in the escape of the notorious 49-year-old Swedish national have sparked significant interest in Sweden.
Swedish journalists, including one from the country’s state television, arrived in Cyprus and attended yesterday’s Larnaca Court proceedings to learn more details about how the 49-year-old managed to escape while under guard.
Those of us journalists present at the Larnaca Court were bombarded with questions from our Swedish colleagues, whose biggest puzzlement was how the detainee was provided with shoes, a mobile phone, and handcuff keys without detection.
The fact that the Swedish journalists’ presence coincided with yet another prisoner escape, this time from Nicosia Hospital, is nothing short of embarrassing as it gives our latest fiascos… international exposure.
