Police in Limassol are handling a tense standoff after a 65-year-old woman barricaded herself inside her home in Agios Ioannis, initially threatening to blow up the property with gas canisters.
The woman handed over the gas canisters following negotiations with police but refuses to leave the house. According to a relative, she is now threatening to harm herself with a knife and pills.

Bailiffs remain outside the property, refusing to leave until they complete their duties and serve the eviction order.

According to Philenews, the woman is in despair and is demanding the reversal of the eviction decision. This morning, she informed her son that she had locked herself inside, claiming there were gas canisters in the property and that she intended to detonate them.
Heavy police forces have cordoned off the road in front of the house, attempting to prevent the worst and keep neighbours at a distance.

Earlier this morning, bailiffs were due to enforce a court order evicting the property’s tenants. However, the tenant locked herself inside and, according to her son, expressed an intention to harm herself.
Specialist police negotiators are at the scene, attempting to reach the woman.
