Police arrested a 30-year-old man yesterday in a case of illegal employment and illegal residence in Cyprus. Two officers were taken to hospital after he attacked them during the arrest, according to police.

Officers went to a barbershop that morning to check information about illegal employment. They found the 30-year-old working there illegally, and checks showed he was also living in the Republic illegally.

As officers moved to arrest him for offences committed in the act, he pushed past them and left the shop, trying to escape. Officers stopped him a short distance away, and he attacked them again, hitting and biting them.

One officer suffered a haematoma and an eye injury, and the other a dislocated shoulder. Both were taken to Nicosia General Hospital for examination.

Central Nicosia Police Station is continuing its investigation.
