Paphos police have detained two individuals in connection with a case involving fraudulent marriage documents used to obtain residence permits in Cyprus.
A third suspect is currently being sought by authorities.
Michalis Nicolaou, Assistant Police Director of Operations in Paphos, reported that a 41-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman presented themselves at the local Aliens and Migration Service office yesterday afternoon.
The pair attempted to register their purported marriage and secure residence permits using documents that raised suspicions among officials.
According to police, the 41-year-old man confessed that the documents were fake and that he had never married the 19-year-old woman.
The man implicated a third individual, a 29-year-old Cyprus resident, who allegedly arranged the younger woman’s travel to Cyprus and produced the counterfeit documents.
Both the man and woman have been arrested on judicial warrants. They face charges including conspiracy to defraud, forgery, and attempting to obtain registration by false pretences.
