Three arrested over attack on Turkish Cypriot man in Ayia Napa

Police arrested and detained three 18-year-olds early this morning under court warrants in connection with the assault of a Turkish Cypriot man.

The three were detained to facilitate investigations into a case of causing grievous bodily harm under investigation in the Famagusta district, which occurred yesterday.

The three suspects will appear before Famagusta District Court at noon for a remand order.

It is recalled that police, acting on information received, located the 47-year-old Turkish Cypriot man injured on a street in Ayia Napa at around 6:00 am yesterday.

He was taken to Famagusta General Hospital, where he was found to have a brain haemorrhage and a fractured skull base. Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was intubated and transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where he remains hospitalised.

His treating doctors describe his condition as serious but stable.

Police investigations obtained testimony indicating that the 47-year-old was attacked by a group of unknown individuals on Agia Mavri street, resulting in his injuries.
