Strike in Limassol General Hospital Pharmacy averted after agreement

Relevant News

After extensive discussions with the Management of the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO), an agreement was reached late on Friday evening, July 5, 2024, to restore the smooth operation of the pharmacy at Limassol General Hospital, announced the Pan-Cyprian Trade Union Isotita (Equality).

Consequently, the 48-hour strike planned for today, July 8, and Tuesday, July 9, 2024, has been suspended.

SHSO has committed to the immediate hiring of a pharmacist, the implementation of emergency measures to address increased workload or staff leave, and the expedition of procedures to fill a recently advertised pharmacist position.

Regarding the appointment of a Head Pharmacist, it was agreed that, temporarily, the Administrative Officer and Head of the Limassol General Hospital Pharmacy will assume administrative duties.

The Head Pharmacist of Paphos General Hospital will oversee both pharmacies until a new Head Pharmacist is appointed for Limassol, in accordance with applicable provisions and legislation.

To achieve this, an immediate meeting will be arranged between all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, to discuss the best way to address the issue and ensure the complete staffing of the pharmacy.

The Equality Trade Union expressed satisfaction with the cooperative spirit shown by both SHSO and the Ministry of Health. It now awaits the immediate implementation of the agreements to restore the smooth operation of the pharmacy and end the inconvenience faced by Limassol citizens.

Therefore, the Equality Trade Union has suspended the 48-hour strike planned for July 8 and 9, 2024. It also emphasised that it will continue to support the workers, safeguarding both the rights of its members and the broader human rights, including the right to health care.
