Some 2,000 Ukrainian refugees to be evicted from hotels by month’s end

Some 2,000 Ukrainian refugees currently living in hotels mainly in the Mediterranean island’s Famagusta region will be evicted by the month’s end and authorities are trying hard to find best solutions.

This is what Philenews reported on Friday, adding that various ministries and governmet departments are joining forces to implement a plan to find work for able-bodied refugees who can apply for housing subsidy after eviction from hotels.

As part of the coordinating efforts, a workshop was organised with the participation of employers who offered several Ukrainians jobs.

In addition, the Ministry of Labour and that of the Deputy  Ministry of Social Welfare have thoroughly informed these refugees of their rights and financial incentives on offer.

The goal is their smooth transition from Ukraine into Cypriot everyday life and society.

The two government bodies have long been conducting relevant information campaigns in hotels hosting refugees in view of the imminent termination of their stay.

Incentives include, inter alia, the provision of one-off assistance to those who have not yet received it and financial assistance for rent subsidies.

The guests were also sent relevant letters in their own language, while all were invited and completed, with the assistance of the Ukrainian embassy, questionnaires about their living situation in Cyprus.

This is so that social services in Cyprus can have an idea of their immediate needs.
