Pupil suffers concussion after beating by outsider in Limassol lyceum yard

A 17 year old pupil remains in hospital after he was savagely beaten by an outsider who entered the grounds of a Limassol school on Friday, seeking to settle differences allegedly over an argument involving his former girlfriend.

The victim’s parents are calling out the western Limassol lyceum authorities for a complete lack of security measures which allowed the 19 year old to just walk in and take his time as he was looking to pick a fight.

As the teenager’s mum told police, she was informed by her husband around 11 on Friday that their son had been ‘beaten and was bleeding’.

She subsequently drove to the school, where, as she said, the headmaster and teachers were gathered following the incident. Her son’s face was ‘swollen, bruised and he was bleeding through the nose’.

‘The assailant sought out my son and started punching him as soon as he found him’, after asking another pupil, who was also threatened and subsequently punched by the attacker, (according to preliminary accounts) as he initially refused to point out where the victim was.

As the mum claims, her son was talking with classmates, when the 19 year old lunged into him and started savagely punching him.

‘Mum, I took two blows to the head and that’s all I remember’, her son allegedly told her.

The victim is being treated for concussion at the Nicosia General Hospital, while his mum says that he has also suffered injuries to his stomach after he was repeatedly kicked.

It appears that the 19 year old’s anger involved a misunderstanding over his former girlfriend, also a pupil at the school, but this has yet to be established.

As she told police, two days prior to the attack, her son and the girl seem to have pushed each other following a verbal altercation, with the 17 year old being subsequently expelled.

Police have received testimony from several eye witnesses to the incident, with the victim’s parents expressing concern that many will hesitate to come forward out of fear.
