The Police will initiate a seven-day nationwide campaign on Monday, Dec. 16, targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The operation, which runs until Dec. 22, will cover the entire road network across the island and operate around the clock.

The campaign will intensify roadside checks to detect and penalize drivers impaired by alcohol or narcotics. Authorities will also continue monitoring for other traffic violations, particularly those contributing to fatal and serious road accidents.

This enforcement effort coincides with a Europe-wide campaign under the European Traffic Police Network (ROADPOL), reflecting Cyprus’s collaboration with its continental counterparts.

Police highlighted that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs impairs driver performance and significantly raises the risk of accidents. According to authorities, such behaviour is one of the four leading causes of fatal and severe traffic collisions.

The Cyprus Police emphasized that similar checks are conducted year-round as part of their commitment to enhancing road safety and reducing traffic-related deaths.
