Police have arrested a 66-year-old driver after his car struck six pedestrians, including two children, in Argaka, Paphos, on Saturday evening.
The man was taken into custody after a preliminary breathalyser test returned a positive result. Police said he subsequently failed to provide a satisfactory sample for the final alcohol test.
The collision occurred shortly before 6.30 pm on Saturday, when the 66-year-old lost control of his vehicle under circumstances still being investigated and struck six people walking along a road in Argaka.
The pedestrians were a 42-year-old man, a 37-year-old woman and their two children, aged five and seven, along with another couple, aged 65 and 64.
After hitting the pedestrians, the driver continued for approximately 500 metres before losing control again and crashing into a concrete roadside structure, where the vehicle came to a stop.
Police officers attended the scene, while all six pedestrians were taken by ambulance to Paphos General Hospital.
The 65-year-old man, 64-year-old woman and 37-year-old woman were kept in hospital for observation as a precaution. Their conditions are not life-threatening.
As part of the investigation, police obtained a court warrant for the 66-year-old’s arrest. He was subsequently arrested and remanded in police custody under the warrant.
