Pupils at the Pancyprian Gymnasium in Nicosia staged a protest on Thursday against the Ministry of Education’s plan to transfer students with deviant behaviour to a separate classroom within the school.
The pupils’ reaction came after they discovered a concrete mixer being used to separate the school building from the intended classroom.
The school administration was reportedly unaware of the plan and had no information about the number of pupils who would be transferred or the specific criteria for placement.
The Minister of Education intervened to defuse the situation, urging the pupils to return to their classrooms while negotiations with the ministry continued.
Teachers and parents also expressed concern and opposition to the proposed segregation.
