A 43-year-old man who has reportedly confessed to killing 61-year-old Olga Vasilieva in Limassol was taken by police on Tuesday to point out locations, as investigators search for her missing mobile phone and handbag.
The man reportedly confessed that he moved her body the day after the killing and threw it into a sewage pit in her field. Handcuffed and escorted by Limassol police, he left the police cells at around noon on Tuesday to point out locations based on his statement, Phileleftheros understands. Limassol CID investigators are continuing the inquiry, as a confession must be backed by testimony, exhibits and other evidence.
Vasilieva’s phone has not been found, and it is one of the main pieces of evidence investigators are seeking. He may indicate where it is, or what happened to it, as he points out locations. Investigators are also looking for her handbag, containing her identity card, wallet and bank cards, which she had with her when the two went in his vehicle to his home.
Investigators are also looking into a withdrawal of 35,000 euros that Vasilieva made in the days before her death, to establish what happened to the money. Bank inquiries are expected into both their accounts.
Further searches are planned at other locations, and investigators are examining CCTV footage from places where the two went before she was killed. Some of the footage has been received and is to be studied.
Her dog, Max, is now being cared for by people close to her, Pambos Ioannou, a lawyer and close friend of Vasilieva, said in a social media post. “Max, Olga’s dog, is now with us and he is fine,” he wrote. He said the dog had had a hard time after a week without food, shut alone in her flat.
